On the Mont-Rogo coast there are still witnesses of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). These are two machine gun nest systems. The bunkers are located one on Pixerota beach, and the other on Casa dels Lladres beach, next to the core of Miami Platja. They were defensive fortifications commissioned by the government of the Second Republic that faced possible attacks by sea and landings of troops of Franco’s rebels. Machine gun nests are part of larger defensive structures, and today they are fully integrated into the coastal landscape where they were built.
It is worth mentioning the openings, in which the machine guns of the Republican army were installed. The basic material used for construction is mortar, although in the Miami machine gun nests, stones were incorporated with a clear camouflage function.
