During the time when the seas and oceans were crossed by pirates, the Mediterranean Sea was no exception, and neither was the coast of Mont‐roig. It is known that in 1558, 300 corsairs landed on the coast, went as far as Mont‐roig and took up to 18 captives. From these incursions have resulted different tales and legends, one of the best known happens in Miramar: it says that the granddaughter of the famous pirate Arudj Barbarossa, called Red Moon, decided to assault the ancient town of Miramar.

The beach located next to the tip of the Pixerota, also called Casilla dels Carabiners, this last name is due to an old hut built in 1860 as a lookout point for these coast guards. At this point there are also the remains of an old bunker from the Spanish Civil War of 1936.

The ruins of Miramar tell us about distant times, which perhaps date back to the Romans, and of which only the remains have remained located on top of a hill, next to the beach. The place, also known as Guardamar, appears in documentation in the fourteenth century. It was an important fortified enclave during the fifteenth century to store the wheat that came down the Ebro.
